May 10 Encore performs at ELEF Dinner @Eagle Eye from 5:15-6:30 then they will feed us dinner (private function)
May 15 Middle School Orchestras Spring Concert @MMS 7:00pm
May 16 High School Orchestras Spring Concert @HS 7:30pm
May 20- Baccalaureate- Encore only @University Methodist Church 1120 S. Harrison RD Arrive 3:20 pm, Perform 4-5:30 pm
May 23- Honors Convocation- Encore Strings @HS 6:30-7:05 pm
May 30 5-6 Orchestras (Glencairn, Whitehills) Spring Concert @MS 7:00 pm
Here is a list of events happenning in the orchestra program.
Middle School Orchestras
Chicago- The final Chicago payment will be due on March 2. All students will recieve a final payment installment sheet at the end of Feb. (The trip will take place on May 4-5)
Fundraisers- We are currently running two fundraisers, Enjoy the City booklets, and a Spring Catalog sale. Both order forms and money are due on Feb 22
Concerts- I am looking to add a middle school orchestra concert towrds the end of March. The date will be detrmined soon.
High School Orchestras
Pre- Festival Concert- There is a pre-festival concert schedule for Feb 23. This concert will feature all the bands and orchestras at the high school. The bands will start at 7:00pm and the orchestras will start around 7:45. Order is as follows:
MSBOA Orchestra Festival- This year the MSBOA district 8 band and orchestra festival will be held at Okemos High School on March 1st and 2nd. All aspects of the festival are open to the public. We would love to have as many parents there as possible to support the orchestras. The orchestra times are as follows:
Thursday March 1 (the concert band and symphonic band are also scheduled for Thursday this year)
1:20 pm - (Encore Strings)
Friday March 2
11:55 am (Concert Orchestra)
3:35 pm (Symphonic Orchestra)
State Solo and Ensemble- For those students who registered, the state solo and ensemble festival will be held at Okemos High School on March 24. Individual times are TBD
The first payment for our Chicago Trip on May 4-5 was this due week. Fundraiser profits will be applied to the next payment. We will hold one more fundraiser sometime in the new year.
The winter band and orchestra concert will take place on Wednesday Dec 7. at 7:00 pm at the High School. This concert will feature the 7th and 8th grade band and orchestras. We will also have a few selections by the 8th grade full orchestra! Students should arrive at 6:15 pm in order to tune and warm up. Concert dress: white tux shirt, black pants, and black shoes
We have scheduled another orchestra “get together” for this Friday at Zap Zone in Lansing. We will meet there at 6:00 pm and play a few games. This is optional for HS students. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event as well as cost. It is $7 dollars per game. We will probably play between 1-3 games.
Dec 9- (Fri)- This is optional for students. The Friday night collage show will take place in the Student Union starting at 7:00 pm. It will feature the Art show and small ensemble performances by orchestra, band , choir, and theater students.
Dec 10- (Sat)- Rehearsal will take place from 3-5 pm for all students. We will take our annual life touch group pictures at 5:30 for all the orchestras and bands. We will then have pizza and a movie for any students that want to stay until the show. The full Collage show will take place in the auditorium at 7:30 pm. Last year this was a packed house, so please arrive early to get a good seat!
FYI- there is a home basketball game during the Friday night Collage presentation.
The 2011-2012 school year is off to a great start.
7th and 8th grade- First practice sheets were due Friday, September 16th.
Solo and Ensemble forms are due with money by September 30th. It is very important to get this in on time, so I can register you online with MSBOA.
All violin and violas students should have a shoulder pad.
Congrats to Theo and Monica on making it into the Mid Michigan Youth Symphony!
Middle School goals for this month are:
7th grade- (Essential Elements, Book 2)
Proper playing posture
Playing with bigger tones
3rd position work (Essential Techniques, Book 3)
D minor scale
Symphonic orchestra, the chair tests will begin on Wednesday September 21st. We will start with seniors, juniors, then sophomores.
All- State forms have gone out to those students who want to audition. Please get the All- State worksheet and money back to me ASAP. Online registration has begun.
All violin and viola student should have a locker and lock. (I need the combination)
“Night Out” is coming up on October 2nd. Group sign up sheets are on my door. Please keep groups to 4-5 members.
Car wash will take place on Oct. 8th.

If you have thought about auditioning for the MMYS but were not sure, come check out their spring concert. They rehearsal every Monday in the High School and give performances at the Wharton Center! We have many EL orchestra and band students in this ensemble.
Friday, May 6, Encore Strings perform at MSBOA State Festival

Wednesday, May 18, HS Spring Awards Orchestra Concert

Come see the High School Orchestra perform music by John Rutter, Warlock, Meyer, Shostakovich, Cream, as well as Music from "Pirates, At World's End!" We will be having an awards presentation at this concert.
Thursday, May 19, 4th grade visits MS

The 8th grade orchestra, band, and choir students will be performing for the EL 4th grade students! Thank you to Mrs. Kroth for arranging this event.
Friday, May 20, Frank Vignola Trio
ELHS @ 10:00 am
We were able to reschedule the great guitarist Frank Vignola (after that brutal snow storm got in the way back in Feb.) The trio will perform for the MS and HS orchestra and band students along with HS choir and theater students. Parents, feel free to come check out these amazing musicians! This event is being sponsored by the HS parent council, ELBOPA, and collage fund.
