Dear Middle School Students and Music Parents,
Solo and ensemble festival offers instrumental music students the opportunity to perform a solo and/or an ensemble before an expert judge. The judges make verbal and written comments on the students' performances and award ratings from first through fifth division. Medals are given to students who earn a first or second division rating.
The festival will take place on Saturday, November 11th. The festival will be held at Charlotte Middle School. Students who participate in the festival are responsible for their own entry fees and transportation. The entry fee is $12.00 per person per event. The fee for a solo is $12.00, a duet is $24.00 (split between the two players), a trio is $36.00 etc. Entry fees are due by Friday, September 29th.
Students who are studying with a private teacher usually will have their solos chosen by their teacher. East Lansing has appropriate solo and ensemble music for students who are not taking private lessons. This year we are going to bring in Michigan State Community Music Faculty to coach the small ensembles during class.
Please return the form at the bottom of the page by September 29th if your student would like to participate in solo and ensemble festival. Registration fees are due at the same time. Please seal everything in an envelop with the student’s name on the front. This festival is optional.
Sincerely,
David Rosin, Mikaela Vanator
