Dear High School Orchestra Parents and Students, The district orchestra festival this year is on February 28th at East Lansing High School. Each orchestra will play three prepared selections and sight-read one piece that they have never seen. Four expert judges will grade the orchestra’s performance in five categories and these grades are averaged for an overall numerical rating. Festival is basically the MEAP test for orchestra. The Chamber Orchestra will play on Friday, February 28th at 9:30 am. Chamber members should report to the East Lansing High School Orchestra Room at 8:00 am in uniform. Students will need to bring their uniforms to school that morning. The Encore Strings will play on Friday, February 28th at 11:30 am. The students will be released from class around 10:00 am to change. Students will need to bring their uniforms to school that morning. The Symphonic Orchestra will play on Friday, February 28th at 2:40 pm. The students will be released from class around 1:00 pm to change. Students will need to bring their uniforms to school that morning. Parents are highly encouraged to come hear their student’s orchestra perform. It is always easier to give a great performance when there are friendly faces in the audience. All aspects of the festival are open to the public, however there is no videotaping allowed in the sight-reading room. Participation in festival is an integral and required part of the orchestra curriculum. Thank you for having your student (in uniform) present for this very important event. You will be amazed at what you will hear from all three orchestras. A Pre-festival concert will be held this Thursday, February 20th beginning at 6:30pm. There are a total of five groups performing on this concert. It will begin with the Symphonic Band, followed by the Symphonic Orchestra, Concert Band, Chamber Orchestra, and Encore Strings. Dear Parents,
Mrs. Sietsema, our trip coordinator, came on Friday to speak with the band and orchestra students about expectations on the trip. She is in the process of scheduling a parent meeting as well. On Monday, the students can begin the process of signing up for rooms for the trip. Guidelines are as follows: 1. There will be four students to a room. 2. Students must rooms with others students of the same grade and gender. 3. Students must not erase other student's names from the sign-up sheet. 4. Students must write their own name on the sheet. 5. Mr. Rosin and Mrs. Kroth have final say/veto power on room selections. 6. If there are an uneven number of students per room, Mr. Rosin and Mrs. Kroth may have to combine rooms or make slight adjustments. Mrs. Kroth and I made it very to clear to the students that this is a time to be good citizens, and not a time to make others feel bad. Choosing roommates should not involve any type of bullying or mean behavior. We want this to be a positive experience for the students, and we expect the focus of our trip to be on our performance, the performance of the Chicago Symphony, and the many museums we will be visiting. Please email any questions or concerns to [email protected] |
