Hello Everyone,
The 2011-2012 orchestra season will be beginning soon. Below you will find some general information based on grade level. MS Orchestras We are looking into a possible trip to Chicago on the weekend on May 4-5, 2012! More details will be coming soon. 7th grade students- Orchestra will meet everyday this year. We will be using Essential Elements 2000, Book 2, and Essential Techniques 2000, Book 3. I have a classroom set, however it would help if you could get your own copy. Violin and viola students, you will receive a locker in the music wing to store your instruments. Due to the large class sizes, you will have to share the locker with another student. Cello and bass players, you will be able to use a school instrument during the day and keep your instrument at home. It is expected that you bring your instrument to our concerts. 8th grade students- We will be using Essential Techniques 2000, Book 3. Furthermore, we should be able to have some full orchestra experiences this year with the band students! HS Orchestras We will not be playing on the first day of orchestra. However, we will try to start playing on day two! This year everyone will be receiving a black music folder. All the folders have been numbered and stuffed with a pencil, the handbook, and a private teacher list. It is expected that you take care of this folder. I would like to start giving out lockers on the first day. So, violin and viola students please bring a combination lock to use for the school year. Remember you will need to provide me with a copy of the combination. HS students, Don’t forget about the orchestra picnic on Tuesday Aug 30th! This is going to be a really fun event with games and grill masters! Check out the previous blog post to get more info. Please RSVP to Neil Syal at [email protected] ASAP if you have not already done so. I am looking forward to getting this orchestra season off to a great start! Hope everyone had a fun summer. See you soon. --Mr. Rosin

Dear High School Orchestra members and incoming 9th grade members,
The orchestra will be having a picnic on Tuesday, 30th of August at Patriach Park. This will be a jolly time for the orchestra to get together and have an opportunity to get to know the freshmen. The picnic will start at 11:00 and lunch will be served at noon. Please email Neil at [email protected] to RSVP by Monday the 29th, for the event so we can bring enough hot dogs and hamburgers. If you are vegetarian, please let us know so we can accomodate you. This is an event only for orchestra members. Please do not bring anybody else. Everyone needs to bring something to the picnic depending on their grade. Senior: Drinks ( like waterbottles and pop 12 packs, no 2-liters) Juniors: Side dishes Sophomores: dessert Freshman: just yourself:) Neil Syal Senior Bass ELHS Freshman Orchestra families
Welcome to the East Lansing Band & Orchestra Parent Association (aka ELBOPA). We hope your families' transition into the high school, and especially the high school music program, is a good one! The ELBOPA group is gearing up for a fast and furious Fall semester. Here are a few pieces of information to get you up to speed. 1 - There is an ELBOPA website that can provide you with background information as well as current news and volunteer/fundraiser events. You can find this website on the left hand link of the HS web page or athttp://elps.k12.mi.us/education/dept/deptinfo.php?sectionid=821. Please take a look at this so you get familiar with our mission, purpose and function. Hopefully you will get involved in some manner this year. 2 - ELBOPA information packets will be emailed to all families in a few weeks. Below is a roster of key contact people in case you have any questions in the meantime: ELBOPA Board: President: Dianne Syal - [email protected] Vice President: Monique Bierwirth - [email protected] Secretary: Denny Hoopingarner - [email protected] Treasurer: Romy Fitschen-Brown - [email protected] ** We are in need of chairs for a few of our committees, namely Publicity, Spaghetti Dinner and Orchestra Volunteer Coordinator. If you’re interested, contact Dianne Syal at [email protected] 3 – Dates for your Calendar: ELBOPA Meeting: August 16, 6 pm in the H S Orchestra room; open to all band and orchestra parents Night Out - Sunday October 2 from 4 to 8 pm - This is a fun low-key fundraiser event, where the students split the money raised by their small groups to go into their own student accounts. If your student plans to join in this fundraising event but doesn't want to bring their stringed instrument, we might have some kazoos or percussion type instruments for them to play, or they can be the spokesperson for their small group. Volunteer Need: We’ll need drivers! No musical talent necessary - just your driving skills, a car that fits you and 4 others, and a sense of fun. Car Wash - Saturday October 8. This is a fundraising event from 9 til 4 pm, which supports the general program. ELBOPA strongly encourages every Orchestra student to take part in either Night Out or the Car Wash as this "satisfies" their quota for participation. Volunteers are needed for a variety of jobs. More specific volunteer info on these events will be in your emailed packet. 4 - ELBOPA will be compiling an ELBOPA H S directory page (paper copies) to be distributed to the students in class and to be available on open house/curriculum night. If you DO NOT want your family's phone and email information on this directory page, please contact Jeanne Maguire at [email protected]. ** If you do not want this particular email address included in the ELBOPA directory or to receive our periodic ELBOPA emails, please let Jeanne know. Looking forward to a musically eventful year! Jeanne Maguire ELBOPA E-communications Volunteer |
