Dear Middle School Orchestra Parents and Students, The district orchestra festival this year is on March 13th at Charlotte High School. Each orchestra will play three prepared selections and sight-read one piece that they have never seen. Four expert judges will grade the orchestra’s performance in five categories and these grades are averaged for an overall numerical rating. Festival is basically the MEAP test for orchestra. The 7th grade Orchestra will play on Friday, March 13th at 10:55 am. 7th grade orchestra members should report to the MacDonald Middle School in uniform by 8:45am. The bus will depart for Charlotte High School promptly at 9:00am. We are in need of some parent drivers to help transport basses and cellos to the festival that morning. If you can help, please email me at [email protected] or [email protected] The 8th grade Orchestra will play on Friday, March 13th at 1:35pm. 8th grade orchestra members should report to the MacDonald Middle School in uniform by 11:45am. The bus will depart for Charlotte High School promptly at 12:00pm. We are in need of some parent drivers to help transport basses and cellos to the festival that afternoon. If you can help, please email me at [email protected] or [email protected] ** Students may leave with their parents/ guardian after the performance, but I must have a written note prior to the festival. Parents are highly encouraged to come hear their student’s orchestra perform. It is always easier to give a great performance when there are friendly faces in the audience. All aspects of the festival are open to the public, however there is no videotaping allowed in the sight-reading room. Participation in festival is an integral and required part of the orchestra curriculum. Thank you for having your student (in uniform) present for this very important event. You will be amazed at what you will hear from both orchestras. A Pre-festival concert will be held Tuesday, March 3 beginning at 7:00pm. The 6th grade will play a couple pieces first followed by the 7th and 8th grade orchestras. Please feel free to only attend your student's portion of the concert. Students may leave when they are done performing. We have a special guest clinician coming to work with the 7th and 8th grade for a few minutes after they perform in preparation for festival. Sincerely, David Rosin Orchestra Teacher East Lansing Public School Feb 9, 2015
