Update September- October
CAR WASH- Our ELBOPA car wash is this Saturday, Oct 8th from 8-5 at the Middle School. Come and support the Orchestra and Band programs! We are still looking for a few parents to help in the afternoon. NIGHT OUT- Thank you to all 100 students who participated in “Night Out!” This was the largest number of students we have ever had involved in this event! We have received many compliments from members of our community. Special thanks to all of our parent drivers too:) Bravo to everyone who was involved. SENIORS TO GRAND RAPIDS SYMPHONY- We are in the process of planning a trip for our orchestra seniors to go and hear the Grand Rapids Symphony on November 11. More details to come soon. HS UNIFORMS- At this point all of the HS orchestra students should have a uniform with a couple of exceptions. Students should have taken there uniforms home. Please do not leave them in your school locker or in the orchestra room. ALTERNATIVE STRING STYLE DAY at MSU We have some students participating in the Alternative string style day again this year at Michigan State University on November 12th. This year’s emphasis is on jazz, and the guest artist in Randy Sabien. I will be attending and participating along with the students this year. ALL STATE ORCHESTRA- We have two high school students and two middle school students auditioning for the MSBOA all state orchestra on the weekend of October 29-30 in Okemos. Good luck to those students as they prepare for the auditions. MS CHICAGO TRIP- There will be a Chicago Trip meeting on Wednesday, October 12th for those parents who have students interested in going on the trip May 4-5, 2012. The meeting time is 7:00-7:30 pm in the Macdonald Middle School Auditorium. MS SOLO and ENSEMBLE We have many students preparing for the middle school solo and ensemble festival on November 19th in Charlotte. Good luck to all of those students as they prepare for their performances. The ensembles will receive instruction from MSU Community Music School staff over the next month. More information about piano accompaniments will be coming soon. FIRST CONCERT OCT. 26th Our fall concert will take place on October 26th at 7:00 pm at the HIgh School Center for the Performing Arts. This concert involves almost 170 students from 7th -12th grade. More details will come out soon. The 2011-2012 school year is off to a great start.
7th and 8th grade- First practice sheets were due Friday, September 16th. Solo and Ensemble forms are due with money by September 30th. It is very important to get this in on time, so I can register you online with MSBOA. All violin and violas students should have a shoulder pad. Congrats to Theo and Monica on making it into the Mid Michigan Youth Symphony! Middle School goals for this month are: 7th grade- (Essential Elements, Book 2) Proper playing posture Playing with bigger tones 8th grade- 3rd position work (Essential Techniques, Book 3) D minor scale HS students- Symphonic orchestra, the chair tests will begin on Wednesday September 21st. We will start with seniors, juniors, then sophomores. All- State forms have gone out to those students who want to audition. Please get the All- State worksheet and money back to me ASAP. Online registration has begun. All violin and viola student should have a locker and lock. (I need the combination) “Night Out” is coming up on October 2nd. Group sign up sheets are on my door. Please keep groups to 4-5 members. Car wash will take place on Oct. 8th. Congrats to Kevin, Michaela, and Olivia and on making it into the Mid Michigan Youth Symphony!
